The discovery of the sequence geology-soil-plant-animal meant a revolutionary breakthrough for all those trying to fight poor crops and unprofitable animal breeding. It was the result of joint efforts by geologists, agricultural experts and veterinaries who learnt how to fertilize and improve the soil and to give massive mineral supplement to the feed. The diseases were done away with and animal health and productivity improved miraculously.
For HB as well as for other naturalists and biologically oriented observers this was hardly a miracle. And the step to the question of similar conditions existing in humans was not long, in view of the great genetic and physiological correspondances between the species. Humans too must be seen in their biological context.
HB soon realized that the medical establishment had a very negative attitude to his idea. He put his hopes in a future generation of researchers as he expressed it in a metaphor which concludes one of his articles:
“The open sea of free basic research will sooner or later throw the shipwrecked back onto the shore… Hopefully.”.,
